How to Achieve Your Peak Potential, Naturally!

North Idaho is a great place to enjoy an active lifestyle year round. The winter sports season is behind us now and summer sports are in full swing. One of the best things for helping you enjoy your active lifestyle is to make sure your spine is properly aligned and functioning at its best.

A chiropractic adjustment is a tune-up. Adjustments can help you perform at your best in high intensity sports as well as in gentler activities such as gardening and can help enhance quality of life in general. I enjoy many athletic activities including snowboarding, trail running, and martial arts, and I honestly don’t think I could do it all without regular chiropractic adjustments.

I have had people say to me, “Doc, I better not get adjusted right now. I’m going mountain biking this weekend and I might throw myself out of whack. I’ll get adjusted next week.” That’s backwards. You would never hear a NASCAR driver tell his mechanic, “I don’t want to get my car tuned up right now. Big race tomorrow and I’ll probably just throw it ‘out of whack.’  I’ll have it tuned up right after the race.” Does that make sense?  Nope. A high performance car needs to be finely tuned before the race or it will have precisely zero chance of winning.

How does chiropractic enhance sports performance?  Simple. If your spine is not working right, the rest of your body can’t either. Chiropractic adjustments help your spine and nervous system – and your body as a whole – function at their optimum potential.

Consider the following research:

  • A 1991 study compared athletic performance between athletes under chiropractic care with athletes not under chiropractic care. After 12 weeks, the chiropractic group showed significantly greater improvement in agility, balance, kinesthetic perception, power and reaction time.
  • A study in 1996 of varsity college baseball players showed that chiropractic led to improved athletic performance and in physiological functions such as blood pressure, pulse rate, treadmill stress testing, and oxygenation of tissues.
  • In a 2002 survey of NFL athletic trainers, 86% believed that chiropractors play an important role in the NFL.
  • In a 2002 report, a chiropractor who traveled with the PGA stated that up to 85% of the injuries on the PGA Tour relate to the spine.
  • A 1991 study indicated that chiropractic can improve athletic performance and lead to improved reaction time, fine motor movements and overall coordination.

Elite athletes consider chiropractic essential. Lance Armstrong says that he “…would not have been able to win the Tour de France without chiropractic.”

Tiger Woods says, “I’ve been going to a chiropractor as long as I can remember. It’s as important to my training as practicing my swing.”

Keep yourself tuned and have a great summer!
