Weaning Yourself of the Holiday Sugar

What lies before us and what lies behind us are small matters compared to what lies within us.If you are like most of the world you ate some cookies and candy over the holidays!

Sugar is so addictive and can be really hard to go cold turkey. It interrupts the immune system and the PH of the body so it can really be disruptive to good health.

Everyone loves a sweet now and then and it is nice to not feel guilty about it!

Here is a recipe I use all the time. It really helps me to feel satisfied. They are also full of good whole food so you actually get energy from them instead of the sugar crash.

In a bowl place; 1 cup of organic peanut butter, 1/2 cup of organic coco powder, 1/2 cup of raw honey, 2 Tablespoons of a good quality vanilla protein powder. Mix well.

Add 1 teaspoon of vanilla and a dash of sea salt. This is your base. To this you can add anything you like. Suggestions are, organic coconut, chopped nuts and seeds, organic oats, chia seeds, ground flax seeds, organic golden flax are best. Remember flax seeds should be grounded as needed otherwise they lose their properties of essential oils and antioxidants.

You are looking to add enough fillers so that you can form a ball with the mix.

Once that has been accomplished I like to roll mine in either coconut or sesame seeds.

So don’t feel guilty just change your pleasure. I use honey all the time in place of sugar and have for 40 years now. You can take almost any cookie recipe and use half the amount of honey as the sugar called for and have a satisfying treat. The cookies are a bit heavier but my family has never minded the trade off!!

In 2004, a study showed hypertension among children is four times higher than predicted: 4.5 percent of American children have high blood pressure. Among overweight children, the rate is 10 percent. It is thought that obesity is to blame for about 50 percent of hypertension cases in adolescents today. (mercola.com)

So why not try recipes like this one. Have your kids help and they will be more likely to ask for them. If you have any questions or ideas for good recipes feel free to give me a call!
