Nutrient Absorption Equals Good Health

Mustard Steak Sandwich 2Overall good health depends on all our body systems working optimally and includes having positive moods. Our glands and organs are continually secreting hormones and enzymes that trigger many chemical reactions.

One of the most important functions in our body is digestion. The health of our gut determines the level of health throughout the rest of the body and our ability to heal when things go awry.

Nutrient absorption enables all our cells to work. Healthy digestion insures our detoxification pathways in our liver, kidneys, lungs, skin, and intestinal tract function optimally removing wastes. Our gastrointestinal tract secretes a substance called Secretory IgA. This is an immunoglobulin, an antibody active in defense mechanisms. Vitamin K and some B vitamins are also made in the digestive tract.

Proper absorption provides cells with the essential raw materials necessary to make energy and to perform their differentiated tasks. Within intestinal walls are millions of tiny fingerlike projections called villi. Villi actually increase the area of absorption within the small intestine.

Intestinal wall cells and villi can become damaged by the chronic influx of toxins, chemicals, dyes, trans- fats, molds, yeasts, allergens, highly processed foods, and high sugary foods. When detox organs become saturated, the overload bad guys are sent to other tissues for storage and soon disorders arise.

Chronic disruption and damage to the gut can give rise to autoimmune disorders, allergies, cancer, nervous system disorders and muscular/skeletal disorders. When our systems are out of whack, foods in our stomach may begin to ferment causing bloating, gas, and pain. Even in the intestines, gunk from junk food can accumulate along intestinal walls, build up, and narrow the passage for waste elimination. This enables toxic waste material to be reabsorbed that can then lead to illness.

To heal and feel wellness again, it becomes important to clean up the diet, rid oneself of allergy foods, and increase fruits, vegetables, dark leafy greens, whole grains, and legumes for important fiber to push wastes through the colon. Fiber feeds good colon bacteria colonies.

Consume yogurt with “millions to billions of live cultures” of lactobacillus and bifidobacterium to insure healthy populations of good gut bacteria.

If when you eat you gain no sense of renewal energy, you may be suffering from malabsorption. If there is damage to intestinal linings, those little villi projections, no amount of good foods will be of benefit until those linings are healed. Part of the healing process begins by eliminating poor food choices. Discuss with your medical and/or nutritional advisor effective lifestyle changes that will support proper and efficient nutrient absorption and digestion.

Begin where you are, make positive changes, and begin feeling better.
